ZipStrip® Collated Screws
For Faster, Cleaner Installations

One of the key factors to success in construction is the selection of the right materials and components, especially when it comes to securing wallboards. With a vast array of options available, it’s crucial to understand the benefits and specific applications of various types of screws.
Our collated screws range includes wall and ceiling screws, for the installation of plasterboard and cement sheets.

These screws are specifically designed to ensure compatibility with Australian-manufactured plasterboard such as Gyprock, and we comply with standards such as the AS3566.2-2002 (self-drilling screws for the building and construction industries).

The Right Screw

The choice of the screw is pivotal for the longevity and stability of the wall and ceiling installations.

Whether you’re working with plasterboard/drywall, ceiling installations, or fibre cement using the correct type of screw can significantly impact the project.

Collated Screws: Ideal for projects requiring high efficiency and speed, collated screws come in strips for use with an automatic screw gun, significantly speeding up the installation process.

Metal or Timber Stud: Traditionally fine thread screws were recommended for installing plasterboard to metal studs, and coarse thread screws for fixing plasterboard into timber. A 30mm requirement is specified in AS2589 for fixing 10mm plasterboard ceilings onto timber frames.

Drywall Screws: These are optimised for drywall installations, featuring sharp/needle points and threads that are perfect for quick insertion and stronghold in the gypsum board.

Plasterboard Screws: With a Bugle Head design, our screws prevent damage to the plasterboard. These screws ensure a tight fit and are ideal for fixing plasterboard to metal or wood framing with a smooth finish.

The Best Screws for Plasterboard

It is crucial for ensuring the structural integrity of the installation. Our screws for fixing to plasterboard are designed to offer a secure hold, minimizing the risk of damage to the board while providing a foundation that will ensure you don’t need to return to fix defects in popping screws. Please ensure that screws are inserted at least 200mm away from adhesive dabs as curing and shrinkage of the adhesive may contribute to popping screws.

Project Application & Considerations

When selecting screws for your project, consider the type of wallboard, the environment (such as moisture levels), and the load it will bear; Plasterboard ceiling screws are engineered for overhead installations where the pull-out strength is critical. Similarly, when working with brands like Gyprock, choosing screws that are explicitly compatible (which ours are), will ensure that your installation meets both performance and safety standards.

Installation Tips

Pre-drilling: Rarely and for thicker or harder materials, pre-drilling can help ensure that
screws are inserted correctly and reduce the risk of damaging the material.

Depth Setting: Setting the collated screw gun setting to the correct depth prevents
protrusion or dimpling of the wallboard surface. Make sure that the screw is sunk
just below the level of the paper taking care not to break the paper.

The collated screw gun: To utilise the benefits offered by our collated screws,
you can choose to employ a collated screw gun.

In a Nutshell

The success of a wallboard installation project largely depends on the choice of fasteners and not just the plaster boards. By selecting the right type of screws, such as plasterboard screws, drywall screws, or specialised options like Class 4 Corrosion Resistant collated screws, you ensure the longevity, stability, and aesthetic appeal of your installations. Our range of screws, compatible with all leading brands, offers the reliability, strength, and versatility needed to tackle any project with confidence.

Our screws are compatible with almost all collated screw guns on the market. This includes but is not limited to the following:

FAQs

What types of materials can ZipStrip® screws be used on?

ZipStrip® screws are ideal for fastening plasterboard to both metal and wood studs, ensuring strong and durable holds. Our TwinZip technology is the best of both worlds, being able to be used on both light metal and timber using the same screw.

How do you use ZipStrip® screws with a collated screw gun?

To use ZipStrip® screws with a collated screw gun, align the screws with the gun's nosepiece and adjust the depth gauge to suit the material thickness.

What are the advantages of using ZipStrip® collated screws over traditional screws?

ZipStrip® collated screws are designed for rapid installation, reducing labor time significantly compared to traditional screws. They also ensure consistent spacing and depth, providing a cleaner and more reliable finish.

What tools are required to install ZipStrip® collated screws?

To install ZipStrip® collated screws, you will need a collated screw gun, or an attachment for your current screw gun, which automatically feeds screws from a strip or coil. This tool allows for faster, more efficient screw installation.

How do I choose the right length of ZipStrip® screw for my project?

The correct screw length depends on the thickness of the materials being fastened. As a general rule, the screw should penetrate at least 10mm into the base material but not protrude through the opposite side.

Can you recycle ZipStrip®?

Yes, ZipStrip® screws are made from recyclable materials. However, recycling protocols depend on local recycling facilities' capabilities. Always check with your local recycling guidelines.
